This is true. You cannot overcook 71R’s or they die. You have to keep temps and pressures in check, which is easy to do if you keep TPMS in place.

Start PSI around 27, go easy the first couple laps to evenly warm up the tire carcass and outer tread at the same rate, then drive them hard but don’t overdrive them (no sliding). If pressures get above 35, come in and bleed air off down to 32-33, repeat. This is how you should treat any track tire anyways.

It’s a sensitive tire, but I’ve tried R888R, PSC2, Trofeo R, Falken (18s), and R7s, and those all have other compromises. They either aren’t as fast (all except R7), tire wear issues (I’ve seen 3 911s blow out side walls on R888Rs, PSC2 can chunk) are more expensive (all except 18” Falken), or can’t arrive & drive (R7). I’ve heard the Yoko has good life, but isn’t nearly as quick.

If someone has found a better 19” track tire for our cars, I’m all ears, as we’re all in the same boat.
