FYI, after recent discussion with a gracious Canadian Bimmerposter who just returned from his European Delivery adventure -- wherein he spent a few days at (and driving on) the Nurburgring track with the blessing of BMW -- I wondered if the insurance racetrack-driving
exclusion for US customers was still in effect.
As some of you may have read in an M3 thread re: a crash on the Nurburgring during ED driving a few months ago, a US resident was denied coverage by BMW, who explained that their policy had changed, due to a different insurance carrier. This exclusion is specifically referenced in the ED info packet which is mailed to US customers.
However, after the Canadian gent's experience, I hoped that things for US customers have changed.
Answer is "NO". Per 'Sabrina' -- a BMW NA delivery specialist, the Canadian ED insurance coverage is different.
Too bad for US, because we'll be at the Welt this Monday, and then embarking on 12 days of driving. I still intend to ask about insurance while at the Welt, and maybe they'll even be able to put me directly in touch with the applicable insurance provider. Otherwise, if we drive on a track, it will be at our own risk or covered under a separately-purchased policy for such activity.
That is all.
