Hit the nail on the head with the long throw, rubbery feel (this is not necessarily a "bad' thing) and awkward rev match scenario.
Do yourself a favor and drive an M235i or 228i in MT, the shifter mechanism isn't different - only the gearing etc it is connected to. Better yet find a local owner willing to share some seat time.
While many will say "you can't go wrong" there are also a handful of people currently trying to swap their DCT for MT and vice versa. Figure out what you want and don't worry what the internet thinks
