It's the high gearing that contributes the most. I also read somewhere that there is less sound proofing in the M2 versus say the bigger M3/4.

IMHO they should've made the final ratio lower for cruising so that the engine isn't way up at 3k. Our X1 is just below 2k cruising at 70mph where the M2 sits around 2.5k.

On the flip side, the higher gearing is very fun when you're not highway cruising so it's give and take. Miles of smiles with this car.
