Not necessarily, if you have a good relationship with your local dealer they will usually do courtesy delivery for you and have the car shipped to the local dealer for final delivery instead of the selling dealership. No additional cost, both dealers just agree and notify BMW where the car should go.
I'm having that done on my M2C as soon as it clears VPC.
