I would expect this would be less of an issue with the 6MT? Is the adaption more to do with transmission tune, throttle response, both, only one?

I drive mine manually unless in a parking lot or bumper to bumper traffic. So it's not an issue. Plus you have 3 options for auto shift. 1 is very gentle and that's what you would use in heavy traffic.
