Besides the ridiculousness of the reason, the M2 never came with RFT, while most other BMWs do. Anyway, the only explanation is that they sense you really want and X3 and given supply constraints, they know if you really want one, you'll not let the deal slip. I would just go ahead and buy the X3 and sell your M2 on your own (if the benefit makes sense)
