I'd read somewhere 285 was max width recommended for 10" wheel.

Please post up photos of OE rear wheel with 295 tyres on as curious to see how they look in reality.
Anything's game in street class. I ran 275s all around on my E90 M3, BFG Rivals, on 8.5/9.5 wheels. They were pinched a bit on the 8.5's, but they worked fantastically on course. The recommended range for a 275/35-18 is 9-11".

I've seen some crazy stuff over the years in stock class. A multiple national title winner in solo and pro solo here locally used to have an Integra Type R which required 6" stock width wheels, but he stuffed 275 Hoosier A6s on those.

In any event, a 295/30 is fine on a 10" wheel. In fact the TRA (tire and rim association), which maintains the industry standards, shows a recommended wheel width of 10-11" for a 295/30-19, so it is officially a recommended fitment (not that anybody in street class pays much attention to these, lol).

Regards,
Chuck
