BMW has spread the costs of suspension,
Transmission, and nearly all drivetrain costs across both models including the wheels and tires.
Ordering a multi-course menu (package for a global price) proposed by the restaurant, is normally less expensive than ordering the same courses à la carte. And the food may be more fresh (better availability) and quicker prepared.

Predefined package(d) (rather loaded) = less choice for the customer to personalize = more efficiency at the factory = lower production cost.
Exactly, the primary reason for less customization is More efficiency. Not sure that anyone has stopped to notice that there are far less choices than were available on the 1M.

BMW marketing says " it's purist " while BMW AG provides " Hobson's choice " and BMW manufacturing gets to minimize delays while making this vehicle. That sounds like a very high demand for efficiency. To me that means supply will be very limited and likely not much greater production than the 1M.

At this point I can't imagine the American market getting more than 900 -1000 M2 in a year.
