I've read the thread you linked and it doesn't exactly offer clarification into what's changed between MY16 and MY17. I'm interested because I'm trying to figure out whether I have a faulty ASD harness or if the harness just plays funny with all MY17 models, causing this high pitched noise.
Can anyone here with an MY17 with a harness installed weigh in on whether they have this problem? And also anyone with MY17 who has gone with the coding route.

I have the M2 PE so it's basic HIFI not HK. I had the ASD coded off. I can still hear a bit of white noise from the ASD amp. I've just installed the harness and I had a noticeable sound quality improvement. So for me the ASD harness was worth every penny. I'm also going to recode ASD to prevent a shadow code from being thrown just because.
