I have found that when bulking you can actually lower your protein intake if you get enough carbs. Hence the term "Protein Sparing"

But studies have shown that even 10 grams of Eaa's can kick off protein synthesis.

Now when dieting, I usually bump my protein up to 1.25 - 1.5 grams per lb of bodyweight. One because my calorie deficit is coming from carbs, and two.....your body can actually break down protein and convert into energy if absolutely necessary.

That's why I don't ever diet with low carbs. Gluconeogenesis is a one way street. It sucks that fatty acids can't be converted to glucose.
