This is freaky. Sorry to hear. I get deja vu reading this.
Sort of reminds me of how the rod bearing issues started to surface on the e46 M3’s. BMW didn’t really own up to it until several years later. In fact, they downplayed the issue before the actual recall came out, which pointed out the affected cars. Years later, it turned out that even those not affected by the recall still had issues with rod bearings. It’s safe to say that all e46 M3’s were affected. It was a weak area.
Aside from Vanos issues, e46 M3’s were and still are notorious for rod bearing related failures. Speaking of the vanos; that was never addressed by BMW.
