If you prefer the appearance of iDrive 5 or prefer not to have the larger tiles that show data that updates in real-time.
Navigation, Entertainment, and ConnectedDrive are the ones that update the most frequently, and in that order of frequency. Navigation can be a live moving map with arrival time and distance remaining. You can choose what is displayed for the Navigation, ConnectedDrive, and My Vehicle tiles.

It's easily reversible.
Cars with iDrive 6 as default are shipping now. If you can code this, your car shipped with iDrive 6 Light, but it wasn't turned on. It's not as if this is something that "coders" developed. BMW created it and got it working well enough to build in to the ECU, so it works as glitch-free as any of the car's other functions.
It's been working just fine in my M4 and X3 for a week.
In my opinion, any "glitches" that show up in iDrive 6 Light will also be present in iDrive 5 unless they are specific to the "live" or "active" tiles.
