If it works for you, that's good, your car, your money, your mods..
However, it does provide a pretty surprising amount of restriction of air flow, and it gets worse over time.
When you look at it as a percentage of opening, ignoring everything else, you'll find that the actual wire takes up a pretty large percentage of the opening that light would pass through.
One you start measuring airflow, you'll find that in addition to the baseline (very low speed restriction), once air starts bouncing off the wire, the effective size of the holes between the wires is further reduced, and the faster you go, the more it is choked off.
On top of that (pun intended), once you start collecting butterflies and klag, on the screen, flow is even further reduced.
If you want to do a pretty good demonstration of the effect, use water. Put a screen over the top of a 5 gallon bucket. Using another 5 gallon bucket (Home Depot sells them cheap and they are great for carwashing later) dump the water through the screen into the empty bucket. You can pour it very fast, basically dumping it, and then measure the amount of water that made it into the bottom bucket. You can also pour at the highest rate possible before the water starts splashing outside the bucket. Measure the time to complete the pour, and the amount of water in the bottom bucket.
Then remove the screen and repeat the experiments.
Compare the answers for yourself...If you want to really convince yourself, block a few of the holes as if the screen had collected bugs and repeat.
