Anyone who doesn't think that lithium batteries are not toxic have never punctured or otherwise injured their phone's battery. Gads, talk about poison gas!
Mining and refining of rare earth materials, manufacturing the cells, manufacturing the pack, paying for the electricity to charge the battery, etc. Fairly certain I read that manufacturing the batteries for EV's is comparable to the carbon emissions of an ICE car throughout it's entire life, and is completely offset when the battery needs to be replaced.
