I did my strut top hat replacement for the M2C / M3 / M4 brace the same way, after watching the Evolve video. It was actually really easy and I'm not sure why others wouldn't do it this way.

The only thing that would help to have a helper for, is aligning the strut shaft as you jack the car back up. I did it alone, but it was kind of awkward pushing in one direction and trying to pump in another.

I also used a Quickjack to lift the car rather than jack stands, which might make it a tad more stable.
