I did the adjustment again but ignored the officially recommended number of clicks to slacken off the adjuster and did it up until the brake was just catching and then backed it off two clicks.

On another forum I also saw mentioned that it was important to do the adjustment at least twice and to use the handbrake in between a few times to ensure it all settled - that seemed to do the trick - it's much better now. 😀

I think to be honest it was just coincidence with the pad change - it gets parked everyday on a slope so the handbrake is pulled up quite a bit on a daily basis (also left in gear) - I guess it simply chose that day to become slackened enough to be noticeable.
