I know what you did and it is a typical mistake. When you measure a wheel width you do not measure outer lip to outer inner as it will typically yield an additional inch. The proper way to measure is inner part of the outside edges (where the tire actually sits).

I see, I thought they didn't look that wide.
And that's a classic mistake measuring wheels, and the same goes when you measure the diameter, a 20" wheel will be more than 20" total diameter.
