That's because of an inflexible US automotive federal requirement, specific to the size of the overall vehicle.
That and the amber side markers within the corner of the headlights are mandatory due to an archaic law that was never revised to reflect current technology and design.
If BMW doesn't add them, the vehicle could possible be held up by US Customs or restricted from sale, until its remedied..
Luckily, they're easy to replace..  |
