I hear you loud and clear. It appears BMW will NOT offer Apple CarPlay feature for iDrive 6 owners for free, if they have never paid for it in the past.
The only option might be aftermarket coding service. Unless someone knows how to activate in 'Expert' mode in BimmerCode or something.
