I don’t see anything wrong with 5W-40. You want 5W for flow at low temps, and 40 should be enough thickness to provide good coating and maintain pressure when oil is up to temp.

You could also go 5W-50. Mobil 1 and Castrol make full synthetic oils in those weights also.

My premise is that the engine is up to temp when you’re tracking during the winter months, so 5W or 0W is still ok.

Do you have a way of tracking oil temps and pressures? That’s the only way to know for sure.
