Coding out the cold start (like with BM3) is quieter than bumping up the RPMs, trust me. It IS quieter than just idling though, for sure. I did the catted downpipe first and struggled to keep it at less-than-obnoxious decibel levels and feel like I didn't really succeed until I disabled the cold start.
Non-MPEs don't have a valve controller on the exhaust, so if you have MPE that obviously adds another variable into the mix.
