you dont have to..most people do it because if it blows up, your engine will not function until its replaced.
Also no gurantee the dealership will have that part in stock so you would have to wait for it to arrive and until then your car it out of commission.
For some people, time is more important then money others money is more important then time.
The type of people who buy M2's, $200 for insurance to prevent being stuck on the side of the road is worth it. I lose more money missing 1-3days of work then $200.
