Anyone want to weigh on on either approach? Obviously this one here looks much easier but there must be a reason people are doing it the other way.

I attempted a few times but couldn't get the clips to detach. |
I had the same experience. In spite of my many layers of tape and only plastic tools, I chipped my paint in the process too 
0/10 would not recommend this method. |
Update, finally got around to this. It is soooo easy to just pop the fender liner and pull the bumper away. Highly recommend that route over trying to dig it out from the outside. |
When you pull the bumper cover away, do you have to push down on the tab piece that is sandwiching the bumper on the end?
