(Full story updated on October 17th)
Hello everyone,
In September 2020, I got interested in M2 CS. I admit that his presentation last fall didn't bother me and although I have always enjoyed the M2s, I remain a big fan of the M3 F80s. So it was really late (not to say the last moment) that I got interested in this car. I forwarded the desired configuration to my BMW dealer and then requested an offer. I was really undecided. My dealer called me in mid September to let me know that there were only 3 lots available (to configure) for Switzerland. I told him I needed more time. Two days later, my dealership called to let me know that there was only one M2 CS left and that I had to make a decision. It was a Friday. At midday I called him to tell him that I needed the weekend to decide... and if the car was sold on Monday, I could only blame myself… On Friday evening, my dealership informed me that they bought the car and that I could thus decide to take it or not as I wish !! The car was due to arrive in November. On October 6, I received a photo of the M2 CS which had been ordered exactly as I wanted!
On October 10th I went to see the car, drove it and you know the story ...
So why I changed my mind?
- My kids are 4 and 7 years old so they can attach their seatbelts by themself.
- The car looks stunning in person (pics don't do justice). So I immediately fall in love with it. I have to say I still prefer F80's asses which are so agressive and muscular.
- The feeling is very nice and it feels special to drive. Due to break in period I am not able to really compare it to the F80 but the S55 already feels very powerful in such a small package!
- The car somewhat reminds me my dad's E46 back in the 00's (and the color somewhat reminds me Laguna Seca Blue). Regarding the size it is a mix between my ex "little" Z4MC and the "big" F80.
F80 vs F87 I did 300kms so I will be able to give you a better feedback soon...
+
*I am very happy.
*It feels sportier and more precise.
*Brakes are more sensitive and seems to be more powerful.
*Globally the car feels somewhat more special than F80 (hard to explain).
*Merino leather and M4 CS's seats are gorgeous and I like a lot the alcantara steering wheel.
*The look is very special and aggressive.
*It has all the key goodies of the best M cars (CF roof, CF hood, specific exhaust, big break,...).
-
*Exhaust note is quieter than my ex F80 (due to OPF). But it seems not that bad. It has a classic L6 sound, a bit less metallic than the F80 while driving.
*Harmann Kardon is less good than F80.
*LED lights are less effective while doing 180° turns on mountain roads by nights.
*I prefer F80's ass (much more agressive).
*No leather dash (but at the end of the day that's not that important...)
*Austin Yellow paint was sometimes mesmerizing while Misano is nice but less exotic.
*They could have done a unique color for the M2 CS.
1300kms update:
The car is more engaging to drive than my F80 and it is much more precise (better steering feel and you feel the car better). It is a great pleasure on mountain roads! I didn't think that the shorter wheelbase made the car that different (only 12 centimeters). The ride is firmer but in term of comfort this is really close to the F80. When I do hard breaking the car tends to follow the road inequality more than the F80 so you have to be cautious of that. I can't talk about the motor since I still in break in period. The DCT feels a bit faster. The only thing I miss is the lighting power when doing 180 degree turns at night.
Tire noise is less present than in the M3 on the motorway which is a good surprise!
