So much misinformation in this thread. CarPlay was never and will never be available on model year 2016 M2s because they came with iDrive 4 and cannot be upgraded to iDrive 5, which is required.

Model year 2017 M2s made in July 2016 did not come with CarPlay, could not be configured from the factory with CarPlay, and still cannot add CarPlay.

Model year 2017 M2s made in August 2016 and later could be configured with CarPlay from the factory, and can (in some regions) now add CarPlay through the vehicle's ConnectedDrive Store interface if it didn't come with it from the factory.
