If newtis was still online I could check and give you exact numbers of dry fill - oil change to see how much oil is left over, but I believe it's well over 1L-2L of oil stuck inside the engine block and oil cooler loop. So I just like to flush that out, but if you ask me it's more ocd than anything.
I personally would also not use a different oil weight between bmw oil changes, because if your engine blows and they do an oil analysis and see a different weight oil it could be a problem.
