He didn't say anything about it being 'the last great M car' on the Collecting Cars podcast. Did you hear him say that somewhere else? He discusses it on the March podcast with Edward Lovett for anyone who wants a listen. Starts talking about it at 34:25 minutes.

To paraphrase on the podcast he said it's basically a modern day Sierra Cosworth - 400HP, compact package, manual transmission. He wants to stop putting miles on his 1M, and he got a great deal on it. His co host asked if he will tune it, he said no as it's a lease. He also felt maybe in 3-4 years he won't be offered cars of this type, assuming he's referring to how good value the M2C is. Sounds like its going to be his daily driver.

As a bonus he also does 'whisky files' on his Instagram stories everyday - someone asked his 5 favourite M cars. E28 M5, E39 M5, E46 M3, F80 M3, E30 M3. odd he didn't mention the 1M but thats probably the whiskey taking.
I heard it on the smoking tire podcast when he was a guest IIRC.

Didn't need to link the collecting cars podcast as I already heard it (I listen to every new episode within a day of it coming out), and recall him saying what you note above.
