Fortunately, that's not the case. The national speed limit was 55 mph until the mid/late 80s. They've gone up in most places, outside of big cities. NC is 70 max, many states out west are 75 or 80. Although that's low for what most BMWs can cruise at. The bad news is all of the places where 15 over is wreckless, big fines, and possible jail time. Especially in VA. 5 over is my max thru there. |
Point is, the speed limits don't take into account the safety potential of modern vehicles and just accepts the set standards, from 40 years ago, for the most part.
Most vehicles nowadays can hit 0- 60MPH, in four seconds, meanwhile, in NYC, for instance, the
maximum speed limit is 50MPH, which is a slap in the face.
