On the other end, I'm not upset at BMW, as they own the proprietary software and I can't blame them for trying to protect it, in an attempt to minimize the liability of potential warranty of claims.

There's a lot of smart people out there but so many of them are busy breaking into something else for fun or profit and this isn't even on their radar.
