Just wanted to make a quick post about something I've found tonight.

Everyone knows that if you're running the 2NH brake package and 437M wheels, or BBS FI-R's you'll have scoring at some point because of how close the barrel is to the larger caliper.

Before getting my KL11's my standard wheels were the 437M in Ferric Grey, which had come from an M3, and then from an M2C with the 2NH brake package, and consequently had the score marks on both fronts.

But immediately upon installing the KL11's I noticed (while cleaning the barrels, as I do) that I could nearly fit my fingers all the way in between the caliper and the barrel to get it clean without having to roll the car forward or backwards.

Now, I have the blue brakes, but I can tell you for sure that this isn't possible with the 437M no matter how small your hands are, so I immediately started wondering just how much more room the KL11 barrel has compared to the 437M, and tonight I measured it.

Before I get into the numbers, it's worth mentioning that the 437M barrel is beveled from the wheel face to the rear of the wheel, and there is an extra hump very close to the wheel face. No idea why this is, but it's pretty obvious. The first picture below will show what I'm talking about.

So you'd imagine that the deepest scores on the wheels were right at that hump where there is less clearance, but you'd be wrong. The deepest scores are on the main part of the barrel.

Anyway, measuring the barrels was a bit difficult, but with several straight edges, rulers, and tape measures I managed to get it done.

Luckily, the main hump scoring is directly below the rear pad of the wheel, so that was nice.

The scores themselves are nearly identical on both front wheels, with the deepest being 5" from the rear lip, and the lightest (on the big hump) being 6.5" from the rear lip, so a 1.5" difference between them.

The KL11 has an additional clearance of 5.5mm on the barrel where the deep score normally is, and 10mm more clearance where the hump is.

This is fantastic news, as it surely means that even with the 2NH brake package there will be no scoring on the KL11.
