This. Pick-up lines rarely work, and they usually only work on girls you wouldn't want to touch with a 30 foot pole anyway. The key is being clever, and witty enough. While pick-up lines can be both of these things they aren't enough to hold a girl's attention. I usually walk up to them and introduce myself then casually tease them. Girls like being challenged (teased) and also like talking about themselves. Show them you are interested, make them laugh, and playfully tease them and the rest is easy.
