With a child in the front on any kind of booster seat you should turn off the front airbag, so no need to slide the front seat back.
Airbags are designed for adult occupants. If the child is big enough to sit without a booster seat (ie technically an adult) then they can sit in a normal position.
Not sure who says to move the seat back?
