I can't imagine it's dirty enough to need to clean that thoroughly.

I'd contact your local BMW dealer and just ask them what they have done when guys come in with this clicking. It's obviously nothing the owners are doing, having happened to many stock cars.

Anti-seize simply keeps the 2 different metals from bonding. But it must be used with caution, as there are many bolts you don't want to put it on.
