Im a freak about having clean floors and I'm with the other guys who said Miele. It'll fit everything you've listed that you want.

At one point we've had them all, Dyson, Kenmore, Shark, Hoover and by far, Miele has been the best as far as quietness, ease, suction and reliability.

One thing though, go with a model with a power head if you've got thick rugs (we've got a Marin and a C3 Brilliant), they're both good but I like the controls in the handle on the Brilliant, but it's overkill in price just for that feature.
