Seems there's an explanation to 5055 status hanging around in an old M5 thread on this forum:

Status "5055" usually means your car will be finished in around 7 days, but maybe less. My M5 started build 2 days after 5055, and took 2 days to complete. It is a date that all suppliers of parts for your car must work to/from... BMW use something called 'Just In Time'.

Example: your car moves to the work station for the dash to be installed, and your dash is delivered by lift to that work station at exactly the point in time it is needed. So work backwards and there is a certain time it must be started to be made. All of this is based on the 5055 code the factory told me.
