I've had my M2 since October 2016 and really don't find the lighting an issue.
More for my amusement, I decided to buy a relatively inexpensive HUD and just use it as a digital speedometer. I've always had manuals and drive by ear, so I'm not using it as a tachometer, or for any other functions.
For clarity, I picked a small self-contained OBD2/GPS model so I wouldn't need to place reflective film on the windshield. I'm using the OBD2 cable and a few black self-stick cable guides to route the wiring.
