The gauge under the RPM cluster essentially shows how much fuel is being delivered to the engine under current throttle.
You can turn this off. A lot of people don't like it for some reason. I like having it. It's nice to get an idea of how much fuel you're using at a given moment. It also reminds me of the E30/older BMWs.
