The insulation as described in this thread is no more than 5 or 6 pounds. You'd save more weight by never filling up the tank more than 3/4.
I can stand the drone for a while. On those rare longer trips (more than 1/2 hour) I can use ear plugs or my sound isolating in-ear monitors (AKA ear buds, although mine are much more than that). Stupid looking and illegal, but I really hate ripping out that exhaust that cost me so much extra money when I bought the car.
The regular OE exhaust that I experienced at BMW performance centers never had that drone that I noticed, but to be fair, it was rare that I ever let the RPMs drop that low when I was thrashing their cars.
