OP - very nice ED.
Glad your pops is doing fine. Btw... you don't need a Swiss Vignette to enter Switzerland when driving thru that tunnel(Julia Pass ?)... You only need a Swiss vignette when you drive on a Swiss(CH) Autobahn. Same goes for Austria. IF you stick to the back roads... you don't need a vignette. But it is safer to buy one... bc the fine is ridiculous IF the Polizei catch you without a vignette on an Autobahn.
I know in Austria it is a 130 euro fine, for not having the 8 euro vignette. Also... IF you don't fully affix it to the inside of the windshield(so that you can peel it off, that's a no NO)... that will cost you 500 euros on the spot!

Thanks.
Yea, after coming through Munt la Schera tunnel, it dead-ends and you have to turn left or right on route 28; either way, there is a large white & green sign in front of you saying you need a vignette - it's rather intimidating!
So we actually went
back through the tunnel and the nice lady in the toll booth (on the dam, where you pay the 15 Euro toll for the one-way tunnel) told us the road on the other side (route 28), despite the sign, was
not a toll road & that we could turn onto it and drive down there and look for a gas station (one with attendants
). She didn't charge us for going through the tunnel again either.
