There is a big difference in audio quality between CarPlay and Bluetooth unfortunately.. so much that I don’t use CarPlay anymore.
Technically this should not make sense as CarPlay wireless should have more bandwidth. I guess it’s the particular way that BMW implemented it though.
Try switching CarPlay on and off on iDrive, the difference is significant to my ears.
