Honestly, I think Porsche is beginning to do that with the 718 T. You can finally get Porsche' CF buckets without having to go to the GTS of GT4 variants.

It’s definitely frustrating - some people just enjoy smaller / lighter / less complicated options, but with the CF seats, or Burmester stereo perhaps. Having had a 981 CS and now a 981 BGTS, I love(d) both variants, but there’s a noticeable difference in the options that were available new vs. the 991 variants.
To your point, this appears to be changing, albeit slowly, on the Porsche front. BMW appears to be hard headed on this front...
