in the old days people bought and loved cars because they were fun, and would be a companion on adventures in their lives. Faster Nurburgring times didn't matter. Statistics don't matter much.

I'd rather drive a a car that does 0-60 in 8 seconds but is mechanical with a manual gearbox and can act like a hooligan than an AWD 'sports car' full of computers that does 0-60 in 3.5s

Having driven multiple Cayman including GTS models they are great but very very clinical. They are not enjoyable like a hooligan. I haven't driven an M2 CS but I am fairly sure it would be more playful than the Porsche...probably by quite a margin.
