The B58 is torquier down low... this is because it has smaller turbos and is mapped a bit differently. This is also because this is the engine used in most BMWs that are made to be daily driven... this makes it more comfortable to drive around town stop light to stoplight.
As far as midrange and outright power... there is no comparison... the S55 would run away like a jet... it has way larger turbos and can produce far more outright flow. Like someone mentioned, it's also purposely setup with a linear tune to be easier to drift and come out of corners when tracking... its the same exact story w the newer S58... some say the S58 has even less grunt down low.
