In your post you mention 265 71R vs 295 4S. These will be close in grip depending on what you’re doing with the car, but the wider 4S is likely the winner.

I’ve run 265/35 71R and 285/35 4S on track and times are very similar. I was able to get the power down earlier with the wider 4S, but the 71R had higher lateral grip in the corners (1.1g vs 1.03g). A 295/30 4S is quite a bit wider than even the 285/35, so I’d suspect it to be the winner on track vs a 265/35 71R.

If you have the same amount of 71R and 4S rubber under the car, the 71R will smoke the 4S, unless it’s raining or cold. That’s why I’m going to try 265/35F and 305/30R 71R on a 9.5 ET33 and 10.5 ET45 track wheelset.

One of my track buddies (and forum member) runs 255/35 & 285/35 71R on his OEM wheels all the time. It’s a very quick setup and is likely quicker than a 295/30 4S setup, but again, loud on the street and can be sketchy in the cold & wet.
