I did. The spring compressor is only needed for the stock spring removal.There are ways do it without (by removing the top nut while the strut is still in the car) but I wouldn't recommend it.
The good news is that you don't need to remove the front shock from the steering hub which is often PITA. You can just lean the strut out of the wheel arch.
The rears are a breeze just make sure you don't screw up your camber adjustment bolt by trying to loosen it on the wrong end
