They didn't get too technical with describing the driving experience of each.
But I think they summed it up well when they said the M2 is simply just more fun. You don't have to be going at absurd speeds to have a smile on your face. The M8 is more of a German muscle car with NVH taken to the extreme. It's a highway cruiser and totally isolates you from "feeling" anything. Of course I haven't driven the M8, but I have driven the 850 side by side with the M2 and that was my conclusion.
