This is true, but if you were to open up the ports, header and turbo, you'd see pretty decent gains even without a tune. The ECU won't pick up on the extra flow, that's not what causes the engine light, it's the lack of emission control.
Since the exhaust for most of us is going to be for aesthetics and sound, I think shopping around for best bang for our buck is the best thing we can do.
I'll end up doing a tune, but I'm not sure if I'll go crazy with JB4 or if I'll just head the Dinan route. As for now, I'm only doing look good stuff.
