Before you try this fix there is another cause for front strut creaking/clicking not mentioned in this thread and concerns cars that have had work done that involves strut removal (eg front springs/camber plates). The strut pinch bolt/nut is directional (the bolt head must face forward/direction of travel per Repair Manual) & is spec'd as one time use. 2 weeks after I installed my Ohlins I started getting the noises, ended up finding a thread in the F80 forum mentioning the pinch bolt and then when I went to re-check the torque I found I had reversed the bolt when re-installing Turned it around and torqued a little tighter than spec as I didn't replace it and noise was gone never to return.
Thank you for your reply and clarification. I saw the pinch bolt thread and it is the first thing I will ask the shop to check. This is my last attempt, I want the shop to try everything. If the car doesn't get fixed I will have them put the car back to stock and give up
