I have a doubt that this test result is very accurate. It looks very different from 0W-30. Also I checked various results of good Castrol oils and most of them have an average flash point, even Supercar 0W-40 that has PAO well above 50%.
Even if BP Castrol makes something extra special for BMW I highly doubt there would be such a huge difference between 0W-30 and 5W-30 in elements (Molybdenum 75 VS 1, Titanium 17 vs 0, Calcium 976 vs 2654, Magnesium 836 vs 17) and flashpoint.
The best way to verify this would be another sample without the oil brand name. Sadly Blackstone doesn't provide "pour point" result and a graph of the spectroscopic analysis. |
Castrol uses different ASTM sequence to determine flash point. VOA flash point or UOA of any Castrol is always in line with similar oils.
BMW always asks blenders that they currently use to blend specific oil for BMW. You won't find any off the shelf Castrol similar to what they make for BMW. That doesn't mean TPT is better, it just means BMW wants certain specific stuff. Their previous TPT 5W30 LL01 was really stout oil, but had mediocre cold performance. It was almost 10W30 oil.
